The construction of No.3 metro-line and extension of No.2 metro-line to the west probably begins on May, 2010. As is reported from the Municipal Metro Construction Command, the two new metro-lines will cross the River from Shang Yuan Gate and Wei No.7 Road respectively according to the initial plan so as to improve the traffic condition from the main city to north of the River. Meanwhile, the two metro-lines can link three new regions—north of the River, East Mountain and Xian Lin to the main city. It is said that the two lines are planned to be finished before 2015.
Three metro lines have undergone construction currently in Nanjing: Phase One of No.2 metro-line, extension of No.1 metro-line to the south and extension of No.2 metro-line to the east. The total length is 63km. Until now, 21 of 36 channels of the Phase One of No.2 metro-line has been through by shielding method and 14 out of 19 stations have been finished the major part of construction; construction work of all 15 stations starts for the extension of No.1 metro-line to the south; the extension of No.1 metro-line to the south has entered a climax. It is said that the three metro-lines are planned to be open to traffic on May Day of 2010 when construction of two new metro-lines will start.
According to the initial design plan of the Municipal Metro Construction Command, the total length of the No.3 metro-line is 35.15km while the total length of the west extension of No.2 metro-line is 15.03km.
After the completion of the two new metro-lines in 2015, the total length of metro-lines in Nanjing will reach over 130km which a more convenient metro-line traffic system will be formed between the main city and new regions around. (Nanjing Daily) |
