According to statistics of Taiwan Affairs Office of Jiangsu, Jiangsu has approved over 19,000 direct and transfer investments of Taiwan businessmen till the end of 2007. The contractual Taiwan investment is over 82 billion Dollars and the actual Taiwan investment in actual use is over 35 billion Dollars. The number of Taiwan investments in Jiangsu keeps a leading position in China mainland for years. The fields of Taiwan investments have shifted from light industries, such as textile, shoes, toys and bikes, etc. to mechanical industry, cement, electronics, mechanism and information, etc.

Till the end of 2006, 68 out of Taiwan Top 100 non-governmental enterprises made investments on 218 projects in Jiangsu. Besides, more than 360 Listed Companies in Taiwan, Listed Companies and leading enterprises in some fields made investments on over 600 projects in Jiangsu, among which 419 projects were invested by 229 out of 687 Listed Companies in Taiwan.

At present, projects on information electronics of Taiwan businessmen accounts for 28% of the total Taiwan invested enterprises in Jiangsu. 10 of 12 large laptop computer enterprises of Taiwan have made investments in Jiangsu.

Taiwan businessmen have also established hundreds of service facilities, such as large supermarkets and hotels in Suzhou, Wuxi and Nanjing, etc. Besides, some Taiwan invested talents agencies, consultant companies and sponsoring companies, etc. all have taken hold in Jiangsu.

The total indirect trade value reached 147.514 billion Dollars between Jiangsu and Taiwan till the end of 2007.

Professor Cui Zhiqing, Director of Taiwan Research Institute of Nanjing University and President of Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, expressed that Nanjing, as Jiangsu provincial capital, has been developing very fast on economy since the reform and opening up. Thus, it attracts many Taiwan investments. Southern Jiangsu has become the hot spot for Taiwan investments as well. The opening of charter flights of Nanjing to Taiwan will further promote the economic communications and cooperation between Jiangsu and Taiwan. (Jiangsu Business)
